Ella Mae Landry

Ella Mae Landry, 90, of 140 Cliff St. died yesterday morning at Sweet Brook Health Care Center in Williamstown. Born in Campbell Hall, N.Y., on April 23, 1912, daughter of David and Mary Elizabeth Milligan Ayers, she moved to Readsboro, Vt., with her family as a child and attended schools there. Mrs. Landry was employed by the former Hoosac Cotton Mills and the former Sprague Electric Co., but for most of her life, she was a homemaker. She was a communicant of Notre Dame Church, where she was an active volunteer for the church's former bingo program. She was a life member of the Dr. George L. Curran Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 996 Ladies' Auxiliary, where she served in all the club's offices, including president, and as the auxiliary's chaplain for more than 20 years. She was instrumental in the development of the Children's Birthday Parties program and was a volunteer for the many picnics the club held at the Mary Jezyk Sunshine Camp. She attended several auxiliary conventions. Mrs. Landry was a member of the Berkshire County District 9 Ladies' Auxiliary, and a member and past president of the North Adams Military Order of Cooties, where she received several awards for her hospital volunteer hours. She was also a member of the Frank R. Stiles American Legion Post 125 Ladies' Auxiliary. Her husband, Philip Frederick Landry, whom she married Sept. 2, 1935, in Readsboro, died Aug. 21, 1975. She leaves a son, Edward Landry of North Adams, with whom she made her home. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Ella Mae Ayers Landry will be tomorrow, Sept. 10, 2002, at 10 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in the family plot in Southview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for the Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 VFW Ladies' Auxiliary in North Adams through the funeral home. Her sisters, Gertrude Ayers and Frances Louise Miller, died in 1945 and March 15, 2001, respectively. Also survived by one sister,Hattie Yorke of Readsboro VT.,and include several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
