Jose Ramos

José “Joe” Ramos, 48, of Spruce Street, Housatonic, died yesterday at Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center. Born Jan. 11, 1955, in Newark, N.J., son of Angelina Ortiz Ramos and the late Raffael Ramos, he and his family moved to Great Barrington in 1970. He graduated from Monument Mountain Regional High School in 1973. Well known for restoring and detailing cars, Mr. Ramos had owned and operated New England Auto Salon since 1995. Previously, he had been employed at Caffrey and Johnson Ford, and had also worked at the Rising Paper Mill in Housatonic. He was a bass fisherman and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He and his wife, the former Terry Moore, were married Oct. 17, 1992, at First Congregational Church. Besides his wife and his mother, of Pembroke Pines, Fla., he leaves two daughters, Nina Ramos of Lee and Amy Ramos, at home; a son, José Ramos Jr., at home; a stepdaughter, Jamie Moore Touponce of Housatonic; three sisters, Olga Ramos of Newark, Daisy Pelt of Ogdenburg, N.J., and Janet Rowley of Pittsfield; two brothers, Raffael Ramos and Angel Ramos, both of Newark, and his stepfather, Forrest Howell of Sarasota, Fla. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for José Ramos will be conducted Monday, March 24, at 10:30 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, Great Barrington, by the Rev. Charles Van Ausdall, pastor of First Congregational Church of Great Barrington. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Housatonic. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 23, from 2 to 5 at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the José Ramos Memorial Fund through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
