Leo Wilfred Lavigne

Leo Wilfred Lavigne, 84, of 55 Ice Pond Lane died Tuesday afternoon at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Adams on Feb. 6, 1919, son of Wilfred and Albina Clairmont Lavigne, he attended schools there. He was a longtime resident of 12 Summit Ave., Adams, before moving to Clarksburg. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 104th Infantry Regiment in Europe and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Lavigne was employed as an inspector with GE’s ordnance department in Pittsfield, retiring in 1982 with more than 35 years of service. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus’ Church in Adams and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners clubs. His wife, the former Bertha B. Golonka, whom he married Feb. 4, 1950, died Nov. 1, 1996. He leaves two sons, Francis L. Lavigne of Clarksburg and Joseph H. Lavigne of Shreveport, La.; two brothers, Robert Lavigne of North Adams and Bernard Lavigne of Adams, and two granddaughters. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Leo Lavigne will be Saturday, May 3, at 9:15 at AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, parish administrator. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery. Private calling hours for the family only will be Friday from 4 to 6 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Felician Sisters, St. Stanislaus Church or to the critical care unit at North Adams Regional Hospital through the funeral home. He leaves his granddaughters, Jessica Lavigne of Sherrill, N.Y., and Jennifer Lavigne of Atlanta. In his later years, his best friend and companion was the family dog, Muppy, who passed away on Saturday.
