Stanlev J. Siok, 86
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Stanley J. Siok, 86, of 372 North Plain Road, Housatonic, died on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at Fairview Manor.
Born in Great Barrington on May 8, 1914, son of Boleslaw and Eleanor Bubrzycki Siok, he was educated in the local schools and graduated from John Kanty Prep School in Erie, Pa.
An Army Air Forces veteran of World WW II, he served with the 3502d AAF Base Unit, Squadron B, in the Balkans, Naples-Foggia, Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes, the Rhineland and other parts of Central Europe. He received European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with nine bronze stars, a unit citation with one oak leaf cluster and the Good Conduct Medal, and was discharged as a sergeant.
Mr. Siok owned and operated the former Shooky's Market on Meadow Street from 1947 until 1965, when he became a meat cutter and deli clerk at the former Adams Super Market. He retired in 1977.
He was affectionately known by many of the young children attending the former Housatonic Grammar School who frequented his store for candy during recess.
He was a communicant of All Saints Church in Housatonic.He also was member of Mount Everett Council 513 Knights of Columbus, Adams-Budz Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8183 in Housatonic and the Polish National Alliance.
He and his wife, the former Alice Trzcinka, were married at All Saints Church on Aug. 30, 1941.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, William J. Siok of Westminster, Colo., and Robert J. Siok and Lawrence J. Siok, both of Great Barrington; a sister, Eleanor Kay of Housatonic, and five grandchildren, Laura, Rachael, Tracy, Michael and Jacqueline Marie Siok, all of Great Barrington.
FUNERAL NOTICEThe family will receive friends on Monday, Nov. 13, from 4 until 7 at Hickey-Roy Funeral Home. The funeral will be on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the
funeral home, followed by a liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at All Saints Church in Housatonic, by the Rev. Walter Pelczynski. Burial will follow at St. Bridget's Cemetery in Housatonic.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to
Elder Care of Southern Berkshire or to the All Saints Church Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
