Elimar Peters

Elimar Peters, 91, of Boice Road died early Saturday morning at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield, where he had resided for a month. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Dec. 15, 1911, son of Charles Adolph Detrich Elimar Peters and Henrietta Meta Frieda Timmermann Peters, he attended schools there. A vacation resident since 1960, he moved to Egremont permanently in 1973. He enlisted in the Army in 1932 and again in 1944, serving in the European and North African theaters. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star during his World War II service. Mr. Peters retired as a lieutenant from the Fire Department of New York in 1960. Before that, he worked at the Buffalo railroad post office for the U.S. Postal Service and was a custodian at Grace Lutheran Church and School in Queens Village, N.Y. In his younger years, he worked for his father in the family’s deli. He enjoyed working around his home, reading and cooking. His wife, the former Elizabeth Bollmann, whom he married July 18, 1937, at Trinity Church in Queens, died Jan. 19, 1992. He leaves three daughters, Patricia Kronen of Rocky Mountain Alps, Alberta, Elizabeth Wells of North Egremont and Linda H. O’Neil of Old Chatham, N.Y.; a son, John Peters of North Egremont; nine grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren, and eight foster grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Elimar Peters will be conducted Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 10 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Barrington by the Rev. George Mayer, pastor. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 2, from 3 to 7 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Mr. Peters is survived by his daughters, Patricia Kronen and her husband, William; Elizabeth Wells and her husband, John; and Linda H. O’Neil and her husband, Charles; his son, John Peters; nine grandchildren, Donna, Susan, Karin, William, Matthew, Robert, John, Stephen and Elisabeth; eight foster grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren.
