Lawrence Leo "Pete" McKane

Lawrence Leo "Pete" McKane, 82, of 21 Morningside Ave. died yesterday at home. Born in North Adams on June 3, 1921, son of Louis L. and Emelia Caron McKane, he attended Drury High School. A decorated Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he served as a flight medic from September 1942 to December 1945 and was honorably discharged as a medical technician. Mr. McKane was employed by GE in Pittsfield as a pattern maker in the power transformer division for 35 years, retiring in 1982. Before that, he worked at the former Widen Tannery. He was a communicant of the Parishes of Notre Dame-St. Thomas and of St. Stanislaus. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs, the Stamford (Vt.) Valley Golf Club and the Cheshire Stompers and Square Dancers. He was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed researching American history, especially that which dealt with American Indians. He and his wife, the former Ellen V. Berard, were married in Notre Dame Church in North Adams on May 15, 1943. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Suzanne G. Boyle of Cheshire and Denise Sadlowski of Adams; a sister, Ruth Cunningham of North Adams, and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated for the life of Lawrence Leo "Pete" McKane on Wednesday at 11:30 at Notre Dame Church in Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at McBRIDE FUNERAL HOME will be tomorrow from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory to Shriners' Hospital for Children in Springfield or Running Strong for American Indian Youth Organization. Survivors include two sons-in-law, James Boyle and Gary Sadlowski; a brother-in-law, Edward Cunningham; four grandchildren, Corey Beliveau of Walpole, Derek Beliveau of Adams, and Corinne and Evan Sadlowski, both of Adams; a sister-in-law, Florence Brice McKane of North Adams, and a granddaughter-in-law, Georgia Beliveau. He was predeceased by two brothers, Carl and Paul McKane, and two sisters, Helen Brown and Florence Chalifoux. He was also saddened by the death of his beloved dog, Scruffy.
