C. Herbert Rahm

C. Herbert Rahm, 68, a native of Great Barrington and lifelong resident of Division Street, died Thursday at his home. Born at his parents' home on March 27, 1935, son of Harry and Edith Armstrong Rahm, he attended local schools, including the former Searles High School. He served with the Army during the Korean War. He retired in 2002 from the Fox River Co., Rising Mill division, after more than 30 years of service. Originally he started with the company working on paper-cutting machinery and retired as a stationery engineer. While working there he attended engineering schools in Springfield. Prior to this he had been produce manager of the former First National Market, a salesman for the New England Overhead Door Co., and had worked in construction and in the building of the Massachusetts Turnpike. He was a communicant of St. James' Episcopal Church, where he was a volunteer with the youth group. He also sang with the church choir at the First Methodist Church in Housatonic, where his mother was the organist. He met his future wife while he was in this choir. His hobbies were growing vegetables in his large garden and carpentry. He built his own house on Division Street, next door to his parents' home. He was a member of Occidental Lodge AF & AM and was a member of the Shriners in Springfield. He leaves his wife of 44 years, the former Judith Tremblay, whom he married on March 1, 1959, in Hillsdale, N.Y. He also leaves one son, Herbert C. Rahm; three daughters, Faith Swanson of Shaghticoke, N.Y., Deborah Wilander and Melissa Cabaniol, both of Great Barrington; one sister, Ruth Carins of Great Barrington; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Steven Rahm, in 1966. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for C. Herbert "Herb" Rahm will be Monday, Nov. 10, at 11 at St. James' Church, with the Rev. Catherine Woods Richardson, rector, officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 5 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME. Masonic friends and members of the Occidental Lodge will conduct a service on Sunday at 5. Those who desire may make donations in his memory to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or St. James' Church, through the funeral home, 426 Main St. Memories, reflections and remembrances may be sent to the family through www.finnertyandstevens.com. Survivors include three sons-in-law, Eric Swanson, Paul Wilander and Darrell Cabaniol, and his brother-in-law, Thomas Carins. He was predeceased by three brothers, Herbert, Harry and Earl Rahm, and two sisters, Herberta Haywood and Ann Weldon.
