Robert D. Goff

Robert D. Goff, 70, of 24 Monroe St. died Friday at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in North Adams on Dec. 13, 1933, son of Edward James Goff Sr. and Lillian Brosseau Goff, he was a 1952 graduate of Drury High School. A decorated Navy veteran of the Korean War, he enlisted in 1952 and served with the USS Bristol Destroyer Division. He was discharged in 1954 and re-enlisted in the Air Force, serving from 1954 to 1971 as a technical sergeant, receiving a number of decorations for his leadership and managerial abilities. During his military career, he traveled twice throughout the world, including also Japan, Ireland, Germany, England, France, Italy, Africa and Sardinia. Mr. Goff was then employed by the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1989. He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church. He was a longtime member of the Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion, where he served in several offices, and of the Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 VFW. A civic leader, he served on the Airport Commission for 20 years and on the Licensing Commission. An avid reader of history books, he also enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time in his garden. He and his wife, Taeko Goff, were married Aug. 17, 1967, in Japan and later in St. Francis' Church. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Robert D. Goff will take place Wednesday at 10:15 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will follow with full military honors in the family plot in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested for the Eileen Barrett Foundation through the funeral home. Survivors include two nephews, Mark and David Bushika, and several cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward James "Ted" Goff Jr., on Oct. 30, 1995, and a sister, Eleanor Bushika, on March 15, 1992.
