Peter D. Fraser

Peter D. Fraser, 70, died yesterday at his home on 55 Devon Road. Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 4, 1933, son of D. Allan and Margaret Meagher Fraser, he lived in Lenox until 1943, when he moved to Lee and attended Lee schools. He was a 1951 graduate of Lee High School, and a 1955 graduate of Colgate University. He served as an Air Force pilot from Jan. 24, 1956, until Dec. 21, 1959, and was discharged with the rank of 1st lieutenant. While in Korea in 1957, he flew F-86 Sabre jets in the 310th Fighter Bomber Squadron. In 1963, he joined his father in the operation of Fraser Motor Sales and Esso Service on Main Street. In the early 1980s, he developed the Windsock Industrial Park on Route 102, and in 1984 he moved the family business to the park. In January 1999, he sold Fraser Sales Inc. to Peter Sorrentino and also sold the garage building to Peter Rathbun. When he got out of the service, he worked briefly as a shipping agent for the Lee Lime Corp. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a corporator at the Lee Bank. He was also a former member and past president of the Lee Rotary Club, which is now Tri-Town Rotary. He enjoyed formation flying and flying in air shows in his 1947 L17 Navion, which he restored. He was a member of the Joint Liaison Formation Committee. He leaves his wife, the former Dorothy "DeeDee" Perkins, whom he married Sept. 8, 1956. Besides his wife, he also leaves two sons, Peter D. Fraser Jr. of Lee and David P. Fraser of Milford, N.H.; four daughters, Susan F. Sullivan of Lee, Sandra F. Stasco of Garden City, N.Y., Diane F. Kend of Madison, N.H., and Laura F. Bentz of Columbia, Md.; one brother, John A. Fraser of Lee, and 13 grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- There will be a Memorial Mass for Peter D. Fraser Tuesday at 10 in St. Mary's Church. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 4 to 7 at the KELLY FUNERAL HOME. Friends wishing may make donations to the United Way of the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St. Survivors include his 13 grandchildren, Allan and Shane Sullivan, Amanda, Anna, Mary Emma Fraser, Andrew, Arin and Dale Stasco, Megan and Thomas Fraser, Alyssa Kend and Carolyn and Jessica Betz.
