Sophie A. Norman

Sophie A. Norman, 88, of 3 Myrtle St. died Saturday afternoon at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown. Born in Adams on Sept. 26, 1915, daughter of Henry P. and Tekla Jaworska Skowronski, she attended St. Stanislaus' School and the former Adams High School. Mrs. Norman was employed by the former F.W. Woolworth's store, retiring 20 years ago. She began working at age 16 at the former Greylock Rest, a rest home. She had worked at the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates until 1942, then returned to work as a ticket seller at the former Adams theater in 1962. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church and a member of its Rosary Sodality, and a member of the Adams Senior Citizens for more than 25 years. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and playing bingo. Her husband, John J. Norman, died Aug. 4, 1973. They were married July 12, 1937, in St. Stanislaus' Church by her brother, the late Rev. John P. Skowronski. She leaves a daughter, Eugenie J. Persivale of Whitehouse Station, N.J.; a son, John Norman of Adams; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Sophie A. Norman, who died May 1, 2004, will be tomorrow, May 4, at 11:15 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at noon in St. Stanislaus' Church by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parishes of St. Stanislaus and Notre Dame-St. Thomas. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Members of the St. Stanislaus' Rosary Sodality will meet at the funeral home today at 4:45 to recite the rosary and pay their respects. She leaves four grandchildren, Joseph A. Persivale III of Milwaukee, Leigh A. Alo of Ithaca, N.Y., Suzan J. Charon of Adams and Paula A. Wol of Palatine, Ill.; six nieces, a nephew and several cousins. Memorial donations may be made to Alert Hose Company through the funeral home. She was predeceased by three brothers, Henry Skowronski in 1983, the Rev. John P. Skowronski in 1999 and Valentine Skowronski in 1999, and by a sister, Susan Spring, in 1996. Her grandparents were among the earliest Polish immigrants to Adams, settling here in 1884 from Galicia.
