Anthony Joseph Moitozo

Anthony Joseph Moitozo, 85, formerly of 8 Baker St., died Thursday at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield, where he had resided since January. Born in North Grosvenordale, Conn., on June 21, 1918, son of Antonio and Mary Nunes Simas Moitozo, he attended schools in Thompson, Conn. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from Feb. 16, 1943, until being honorably discharged as a sergeant on March 14, 1948. He received several commendations and medals. He worked for GE for 32 years as a vacuum tank operator and a crane operator. He retired from the power transformer department in 1983. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs, a member of the Lanesboro Seniors and had served as chairman for 10 years of the Lanesboro Council on Aging. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion posts in Lanesboro, was a past member of Council 103 of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the 1918 Club, a national club for those born in 1918, and a member of the Aurora Club of Dalton. He was involved with SHINE, and was a communicant of North American Martyrs Church in Lanesboro. His wife, the former Aurore St. Pierre, whom he married on Feb. 1, 1947, at Notre Dame Church in Adams, died April 11, 2000. He leaves a son, Stephen A. Moitozo of Lewiston, Maine; four daughters, Barbara L. Smith of West Springfield, Katherine P. Mongue of Springvale, Maine, Anita M. Calderwood and Judith A. Coons, both of Lanesboro; a brother, John G. Moitozo of Palm Bay, Fla.; three sisters, Mary Dubeau and Virginia Leo, both of North Grosvenordale, Conn., and Jean Perrotta of Tucson, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Anthony J. Moitozo, who died May 6, 2004, will be Monday at 9 from the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at North American Martyrs Church, Lanesboro. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pittsfield. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 4 to 7.
