Barbara Edith Stalker

Barbara Edith Stalker, 73, of Clayton-Mill River, Southfield, died late Tuesday evening at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. Born in Great Barrington on May 11, 1931, daughter of Vincent William and Frieda L. Cutting Richard, she attended schools there. She and her family moved to Turner Falls, where she graduated from high school. A homemaker, she worked occasionally at Geer Nursing Facility in Canaan, Conn., and as a private nurse. Mrs. Stalker was an active member of the Clayton Church of God, where she worked as a secretary for many years, a position now filled by her daughter, Candace Marks. She also taught Sunday school and was involved in the church youth group. She was also a former Lioness, having belonged to the club in North Canaan, Conn. She enjoyed traveling and gardening. She made jewelry to sell out of her home, but most of it was given as gifts to friends and family. She and her husband, Herbert C. Stalker, were married April 1, 1950, in Holyoke. Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Candace Marks of Clayton; two brothers, Billy Richard of Clarkston, Mich., and Roger Richard of South Hadley; a sister, Constance Person of Portland, Ore.; two grandchildren, a step-granddaughter, two great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Barbara Edith Stalker, 73, of Clayton-Mill River Road in Southfield died late Tuesday evening at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Peter Marks; two grandchildren, Peter H. Marks and Betsy M. Seward; one step-granddaughter, Kelly J. Marks; two great-grandchildren, Tori and Matthew Seward and two step-great-grandchildren, Randy and Ashley Rush. The family invites everyone to join them for the funeral services being held on Saturday, May 15, 2004, at the Clayton Church of God at 10:30 with the Rev. Regina King officiating. Burial will follow at the Lee Memorial Cemetery in Southfield. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clayton Church of God through the FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
