Edward Emery Lescarbeau

Edward Emery Lescarbeau, 73, of Ashland Park, 150 Ashland St., died Monday at North Adams Commons, where he had been admitted Thursday. Born in North Adams on March 27, 1931, son of Edward J. and Emaline Delia Lord Lescarbeau, he attended local schools. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he served as a private with the 304th Signal Operations Battalion until his honorable discharge on Nov. 24, 1953. He had first enlisted in the Navy in 1948 and was trained as a chef. Following his discharge from the Navy, he entered the Army, also in food service. Mr. Lescarbeau had a long career as a chef and restaurateur, working throughout the United States, including on Cape Cod, at the Edgewater Resort in Florida and as executive chef at the Flamingo Casino Resort in Las Vegas. He began his career with the former Rosa Restaurant on Main Street, and was proprietor of the former Ed's Diner and, later, worked as a chef at the former Phoenix Hotel. After returning to North Adams, he ran several enterprises, including a pie distributorship, until his retirement in 1993. He continued working as a caterer for several area organizations, including the Eagles, Elks and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also had been a caterer at the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates in Adams. He was a communicant of Notre Dame Church and a member of American Legion Post 125 and of Post 29, in Readsboro, Vt., and of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 304. He was also a member and past commander of Dr. George Curran Post 996 VFW and a former member of Elks Lodge 487. His wife, the former Mildred Wooley Dean, whom he married Jan. 24, 1976, in Adams, died in 1982. He leaves four sons, Michael A. Lescarbeau of North Adams, Bruce P. Lescarbeau of Readsboro, Donald Lescarbeau of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., and Edward E. Lescarbeau Jr. of Ohio; two daughters, Irene Dempster of Ohio and Carrie Long of Texas; three stepsons, David Dean of Adams, Thomas Dean of Florida and Randy Dean of Virginia; four sisters, Emma Foster of the town of Florida, Theresa Grieger of North Adams, Emaline Perras of Clarksburg and Bernadette Aubin of Stamford, Vt.; eight brothers, David E. Lescarbeau, Donald R. Lescarbeau, Louis C. Lescarbeau, Leon C. Lescarbeau, Norman J. Lescarbeau, Harold J. Lescarbeau and Howard J. Lescarbeau, all of North Adams, and Henry W. Lescarbeau of Clarksburg; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and a step-granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Edward E. Lescarbeau, who died June 7, 2004, will be Friday, June 11, at 7 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial, with military rites, will take place at a later date in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7, prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the North Adams Ambulance Service through the funeral home.
