Ralph J. Pitroff

Ralph J. Pitroff, 83, of 59 Friend St. died yesterday morning at North Adams Commons, where he had resided since July 2001. Born in Adams on Sept. 22, 1920, son of John and Yvonne R. Cirice Pitroff, he graduated in 1938 from the former Adams High School, where he played varsity sports. A Navy veteran of World War II, he enlisted Sept. 3, 1942. He was a gunner's mate, second class, serving along the Alaska-Soviet Union supply line. He was honorably discharged Sept. 26, 1945. Mr. Pitroff was employed by the former Arnold Print Works in the color department for many years, retiring in 1985. Before the service, he worked briefly at the Pierri Buick agency. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas. He and his wife, the former Dorothy M. Ruprecht, celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary May 26. They were married in St. Thomas' Church by his late brother, the Rev. Francis B. Pitroff. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, James P. Pitroff and Mark A. Pitroff, both of Adams, and Ralph M. Pitroff of Williamstown; three daughters, Anne Janik, Frances D. Vogel and Theresa M. Pfister, all of Adams; a brother, John A. Pitroff of Baltimore, and five grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Ralph J. Pitroff, who died July 3, 2004, will be celebrated Tuesday, July 6, at 11 in St. Thomas' Church by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours for family and friends will be Tuesday from 9:30 until the time of the service at McBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Liberty St., which is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include two sons-in-law, Edward S. Janik and David Vogel, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by another brother, Wilfred Pitroff.
