Stella Jzyk

Stella Jzyk, 81, of 386 Savoy Road died Sunday morning at home after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Adams on Aug. 22, 1923, daughter of Felix and Apolonia Szeliga Nieroda, she attended schools in Adams and Savoy, and received her general education development diploma in the 1970s. She had lived in Cheshire since 1947. Mrs. Jzyk was employed as a housekeeper and later at the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates and former Brightwater Paper Co., all in Adams, and at the former Barber Leather Co. in North Adams. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a member of the Savoy Senior Citizens. She enjoyed bird watching, sewing, cooking and flower gardening. An avid reader, she listened to audio books when her eyesight failed. Her husband, Antoni Jzyk, whom she married May 17, 1947, died Dec. 2, 2002. She leaves two daughters, Susan J. Marko of Cheshire and Anne B. Meczywor of Lenox; a sister, Vanda Krutiak of Savoy, and seven grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Stella Jzyk, who died Sept. 12, 2004, will be Friday, Sept. 17, at 10 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Cheshire, by the Rev. David Raymond, pastor. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Stella requested that donations in her memory be made to Perkins Braille and Talking Book Library, Berkshire Humane Society, Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic or HospiceCare in the Berkshires through the funeral home. She also leaves two sons-in-law, Stephen Marko and Jeffrey Meczywor, and seven grandchildren, Aimee Marko of College Park, Md., April Marko of Pittsfield, David Marko of Sunderland, Stephen Marko of Cheshire, and Ashley, Ryan and Christopher "CJ" Meczywor, all of Lenox. She also leaves her beloved dog, Whitey. She was predeceased by two sisters, Josephine and Helen Nieroda, and four brothers, Frank, Teophile "Tuffy," Bruno and Andrew Nieroda. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and enjoyed her frog, Kermit
