Rose Mary Curtin

Rose Mary Curtin, 92, formerly of 1515 West 5th St., Winona, Minn., a native of Cheshire, died yesterday morning at St. Anne's Extended Healthcare in Winona, where she had resided for several years. Born on March 14, 1912, daughter of Thomas J. and Roseanna Casey Curtin, she graduated from the former Adams High School in 1929 and earned a bachelor of science degree in education from the former North Adams Normal School, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, in 1933. She earned a master's degree in education from Boston University and, in 1944, a master of arts degree from the University of Chicago. Ms. Curtin was assistant to the president of the College of St. Theresa in Chicago, where she served in many capacities until her retirement. She was instrumental in developing and editing its mission statement and, in 1975, was named an honorary alumna of the college. She first taught at the former Adams Junior High School. From 1938 to 1943, she was an instructor at the College of St. Theresa and then worked in the planning department of the Catholic College Bureau in Chicago, where she was the representative for a multifaceted group of Catholic colleges and universities. In cooperation with Margaret Wegel, a prominent educator, the bureau became the Catholic Directory for Higher Education, which publishes annually. From 1953 to 1967, she was director of admissions at DePaul University. She leaves several nieces and nephews, including Eleanor A. Curtin and Mary Jean Curtin, both of Adams. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Rose Mary Curtin, who died Nov. 13, 2004, will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 20, at 11 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire by the Rev. David Bernard. Burial will follow in the family plot in Cheshire Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 3 to 7 at MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, Liberty Street, Adams, which is in charge of arrangements. She also leaves her nephews and caregivers Thomas Nolan and Gerald Nolan, both of St. Louis. She was predeceased by five brothers, Joseph T., Gregory F., Harold L., Thomas J. Jr., and Leo Curtin, and by two sisters, Genevieve Curtin and Katherine Jane Nolan.
