Norman W. Taylor Sr

Norman W. Taylor Sr., 73, of 24 Wabun St., died Thursday at home following a long illness. Born in Clarksburg on Oct. 22, 1931, son of Laverne H. and Agnes Luczynski Taylor, he was a 1950 graduate of Pittsfield High School. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served 16 months during the Korean War and was discharged in 1954. Mr. Taylor was employed at GE in the power transformer department for 40 years, retiring in 1991. For many years, he also worked as a bar server at the West Shore Restaurant "Wiggies" and the American Legion Post in Pittsfield. He was a member of the American Legion Post 68 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the Lanesboro Lions Club and a life member of the Lanesboro Volunteer Fire Department, where he served in many capacities for more than 30 years. He was one of the first members of the Lanesboro EMT service and a member of the Lanesboro Fireman's Muster Team, "The Woodchucks." He enjoyed hunting, playing horseshoes, pitch and his dog, Tequila. He and his wife, the former Julia C. Massari, were married June 11, 1955, in Mount Carmel Church. Besides his wife, he leaves four daughters, Nancy C. Taylor of Tampa, Fla., Tina L. van Luling of Williamstown, Joanne Froio of Lanesboro and Susan G. Walter of Windsor; a son, Norman W. Taylor Jr. of Adams; three brothers, Leverne H. and Bruce F. Taylor, both of Pittsfield, and Robert G. Taylor of Lanesboro; two sisters, Eleanor Rosier and Judith Sweener, both of Lanesboro, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Norman W. Taylor, 73, was called safely home on Nov. 18, 2004. The funeral will be Monday at 10:15 from the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Charles Church celebrated by the Rev. David Raymond, pastor of North American Martyrs Church and St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Lanesboro. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to the William E. Laston Memorial Fund or the Lanesboro Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home. He is also survived by his mother, Eleanor Watkins Taylor of Lanesboro. A loving husband, father, father-in-law and "Poppa", he also leaves his sons-in-law, Peter van Luling, Mark Froio, and Douglas Walter, and a daughter-in-law, Laura J. Taylor, his eight grandchildren, Joshua J. Shaw, Ryan P., Ashley S., and Taylor L. van Luling, Cheronne M. Laston, Christopher M. Froio, Morgan B. Taylor and Bradley R. Bedomme and his three great-grandchildren, Aiden J., Olivia L. and Ethan A. Shaw, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by another grandson, William E. Laston, who died in July 2002, a brother, Charles Taylor and a sister, Emily Amuso. He will be sadly missed and always remembered for his love of family, his commitment and dedication to the Lanesboro Volunteer Fire Department, and for his strength and courage which has been an inspiration to all.
