Albert Sadlow

Albert Sadlow, 96, of 2681 Marcey Road, Arlington, Va., formerly of Adams, died Monday at Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center in Arlington. Born in Wysoka, Poland, on Jan. 18, 1908, son of John and Frances Rusnica Sadlow, he came to the United States at age 18 months with his parents and attended schools in Savoy. He became a citizen in 1935 and moved to Orchard Street in Adams in 1958. He moved to Arlington three years ago. Mr. Sadlow was employed by the state Department of Natural Resources as a carpenter and trouble-shooter, working at various parks and recreational facilities in several counties. He retired in 1973 and was awarded a commemorative plaque for his service. Earlier he had worked for the towns of Windsor and Savoy, the former L.L. Brown Paper Co. and former Berkshire Mills, and as an independent carpenter and contractor. He also was caretaker and handyman at the Knights of Columbus Boys' Camp in West Hawley from its opening in 1937 until it was sold to the state in the early 1950s. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. His wife, the former Frances Maluda, whom he married July 4,1928, died May 5, 1997. He leaves a son, Chester Sadlow of Olympia, Wash.; a daughter, Carolyn Owczarski of Arlington, with whom he had resided, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Albert Sadlow, who died Nov. 22, 2004, will be Saturday, Nov. 27, at 11 from TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at noon at St. Stanislaus' Church. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Capital Hospice through the funeral home. He was affectionately called dzia-dziu by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Al by most, and dad or pa by family and a few close friends. He will be sadly missed. He leaves his daughter-in-law, Helen, and son-in-law, William, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Walter and Joseph Sadlow, and a sister, Mary Stefanski Johnson.
