Shirley Less

Shirley Less, 93, of 503 Colonial Drive, Wilder, Vt., formerly of North Adams, died Friday at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., after a long illness. Born in Russia on Nov. 28, 1911, daughter of Joseph and Celia Kutt Weiner, her family immigrated to the United States when she was an infant and settled in Albany, N.Y., where she was educated. She moved to North Adams in 1934, residing for many years at 506 West Main St., and to Wilder in 1989. Mrs. Less was employed as a bookkeeper in Troy until her marriage. She was a longtime member of Congregation Beth Israel and of its Sisterhood, and a member of the North Adams chapter of Hadassah. Her husband, Louis Less, a co-owner of the former West End Market, whom she married June 10, 1934, in Albany, died March 4, 1989. She leaves two daughters, Gloria Azia of West Hartford, Conn., and Roberta Sachs of Wilder, with whom she resided; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Graveside committal and burial services for Shirley Less, who died Jan. 7, 2005, will be conducted tomorrow, Jan. 11, at noon at Beth Israel Cemetery, Walker Street, Clarksburg, by Rabbi Jeffrey Goldwasser, spiritual leader of Congregation Beth Israel. There will be no calling hours. The omission of flowers is requested. Any memorial donations are suggested for Congregation Beth Israel through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include her son-in-law, Irwin Sachs of Wilder; grandchildren, Stephen, David and Jeffrey Azia, Robyn Sachs and Jodi Sachs Rubin; six great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Abraham and Alex Weiner.
