Thomas "Papa Tom" Mosca

Thomas "Papa Tom" Mosca, 74, of 736 East St. died Sunday at home. Born in Pittsfield on May 13, 1930, son of Gregory and Giovanna Stratotti Mosca, he was a 1948 graduate of Pittsfield High School. An Army veteran, he served with Company C, 6th Medium Tank Battalion, 24th Infantry Division during the Korean War. He was stationed at Camp McNeer at the base of Mount Fuji, where his battalion guarded prisoners of war at Cheju Ise Camp 8 and Puson Camp 2. Mr. Mosca was employed by Joseph Sorrentino Jr. at Barn Speed Hobbies. After the service, he managed the Van Dyke Studio in Pittsfield, buying it in 1963 and selling it several years later. He then worked at the former Clark Aiken Co. until the late 1970s. He was a wedding photographer for 55 years. He enjoyed building model planes and flying radio-controlled planes, and was treasurer of the South Berkshire Flying Club. He also was a member of the Easy Riders Snow Mobile Club and of the Lee Sportsmen's Club, where he participated in the pistol and rifle league. He enjoyed fly fishing. He and his wife, the former Jeanne M. O'Donnell, celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary Jan. 26. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Gregory W. Mosca of Lee and Thomas R. Mosca of North Truro; a daughter, Bonnie L. Jones of Lee; two brothers, Gregory Mosca of Truro and Peter Mosca of Fountain Valley, Calif.; a sister, Rosemarie Gould of Pittsfield, and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial Mass for Thomas Mosca, who died Feb. 27, 2005, will be held Friday, March 4, at 4 at St. Vincent De Paul Church in Lenox Dale. His wishes were that he be cremated. The family would like to invite everyone to the Berkshire Blues Cafe on Route 20 in Lee on Friday for a celebration of Papa Tom's life, starting at 6. Bring a story and a smile. Friends wishing may make donations to HospiceCare in the Berkshires. KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee is in charge of arrangements. Tom also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Matthew and Megan, and his son-in-law, John P. Jones, as well as several nieces and nephews.
