Hazel Lee Boyd

Hazel Lee Boyd, 98, of Spring Street Apartments, 45 Spring St., died Thursday, at Williamstown Commons. Born in Williamstown on July 29, 1906, daughter of Henry J. and Mary Ann Godfrey Exford, she attended the former Williamstown High School. Mrs. Boyd was employed by the former Florini Italian Gardens Restaurant in North Adams. A homemaker most of her life, she also provided child care to several local families, and worked for Williams College in the laundry department and as a chamber maid. She retired in 1971. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. Her first husband, Roy I. Lee, died Oct. 30, 1975. Her husband Jones L. Boyd died in 1983. She leaves five daughters, Hazel A. "Dolly/Cindy" Hancock and Tracy Lee of North Adams, Jane Mongeon of Cheshire, Bonnie Jean Bombardier of Adams and Gail Baldwin of Ohio; a son, Royce R. "Rusty" Lee of Williamstown; 23 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Two daughters, Joan Elaine Lee and Jessie Boyd, died at age 14 months and in infancy, respectively, and two sons, John E. Lee and Roy I. Lee Jr., died Tuesday and at the age of 6, respectively. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Hazel L. Boyd will be Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at 11 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, with the Rev. Peter Elvin, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church of Williamstown, officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Memorial donations are suggested for the Shriners' Children's Hospital through the funeral home. Survivors include two sons-in-law, Robert Mongeon and James Baldwin, and a daughter-in-law, Lorraine (Masson) Lee of North Adams. She was predeceased by two brothers, Thurman Exford and Howard Exford, and by three sisters, Pearl Hassett, Ettarina Exford and Jessie Thompson. Mrs. Boyd was a devoted homemaker. Her whole life revolved around her family, and she was dearly loved by all of them. Everyone who met her was impressed by her devotion to her family. She loved nature and enjoyed watching the geese at Southview Cemetery in North Adams before she became blind. She was the last of her immediate family.
