Arthur Harvey

Arthur Harvey, 90, formerly of Clarksburg and Lake Worth, Fla., died Saturday at Wingate, a skilled nursing facility in South Hadley. Born in Pittsfield on March 16, 1915, son of George and Mary Jane Nevill Harvey, he attended local schools. In 1945, he became a licensed journeyman electrician, and in 1947, he earned a master electrician license. A longtime electrical contractor in the North Adams area, Mr. Harvey established his own business in 1948. He was also a consultant and troubleshooter for businesses with electrical problems. Before that, he opened Art's Dairy Bar in 1938, making unique-flavored ice cream for the tri-state area. During the early 1940s, he worked at GE. An accomplished golfer, he was president of the North Adams Country Club in 1972. He was also a member of the Lake Worth Country Club and was the oldest and only surviving founding member of the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Department. He was married to the former Gertrude C. Parisien. Besides his wife, he leaves four daughters, Windella H. Marion of South Hadley, Jo-Ann Harvey Austin of Jaffrey, N.H., Mary Jane Harvey of Adams and Charlotte M. Harvey of Longwood, Fla.; a son, Daniel A. Harvey of Providence, R.I.; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Arthur Harvey will be Wednesday, July 6, at 1 at BARRY J. FARRELL FUNERAL HOME, 2049 Northampton St., Holyoke. Visiting hours will be from 11 to 1. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Department, 181 Cross Road, Clarksburg, MA 01247. He also leaves two sons-in-law, Robert Austin of Jaffrey and James Craft of Longwood, and his son's partner, the Rev. Alcide Barnaby. He was known to be a man of his word and a dependable, honest citizen.
