Edwin R. Grady

Edwin R. Grady, 86, a resident of Laurel Lake Center, formerly of Pleasant Street and Ferncliff Avenue, died Friday at his home. Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 24, 1918, son of Roy and Imogene Barber Grady, he was educated in the Lee schools and was a 1936 graduate of Lee High School, where he played football and received the Alan Wurtzbach Academic Award. He was a 1941 graduate of the GE Apprentice Course in Pittsfield, and also a graduate of the correspondent business course of Pennsylvania International Correspondent School. He worked as a group leader at GE for 43 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club in Pittsfield and the GE Retirees Association of South East Florida. After retiring, he moved to Pompano Beach, Fla., and attended Atlantic Vocational College there. While in Florida, he taught pool at the Hillsboro Mobile Home Park Club House and also enjoyed playing cards. He returned to Lee in 1997 to be near his family, and was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church there. He was also a member and past master of the Evening Star Lodge A.F. and A.M. of Lee as well as its organist, and was a member of the 20th lodge of instruction of Berkshire County. He received his 50-year Veterans Masonic award on July 8. He leaves his wife, the former Rosemary Abbot, whom he married on Sept. 1, 1941. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Karen M. Morehouse of Lee and Nancy Grady Grabow of Sherill, N.Y., four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Edwin R. Grady will be held Friday morning at 11:30 at St. George's Episcopal Church in Lee with the Rev. William Albinger, interim pastor, officiating. Following the Eucharist service, the Evening Star Lodge will conduct a Masonic service. There will be no visiting hours. KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to the Evening Star Lodge, P.O. Box 212 in Lee or to St. George's Episcopal Church, Franklin Street in Lee. He leaves his grandchildren, Suzanne Klingbeil, Troy Grabow, Rebecca Brighenti and Stacey Homan, and his great-grandchildren, Cassandra and Jocob. He also leaves his son-in-law, Merrill E. Morehouse.
