John J. Kocsis Sr.

John J. Kocsis Sr., 86, formerly of 20 Hoosac St., died Friday at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown. Born in Westfield on Oct. 1, 1919, son of John S. and Julia Urokowski Kocsis, he graduated from St. Mary's High School there. A World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps, he served as a staff sergeant with the 3508th AAF Base Unit and received several campaign medals. Mr. Kocsis was a district manager at Beneficial Finance Co. in North Adams, retiring in the 1980s with 30 years of service. Before that, he was a butcher at A&P Supermarket in Westfield. He was a member of St. John's Church in Williamstown, and of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion, Greylock Community Club and the Kiwanis Club, all in North Adams. He was a former board member of the North Adams Salvation Army. He and his wife, the former Stefany Grymkowski, would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary Feb. 14. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Julia Holly of Fairfax, Va.; three sons, John J. Kocsis Jr. of Merrimack, N.H., Jeffrey J. Kocsis of Williamstown and James J. Kocsis of Pownal, Vt.; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Joseph J. Kocsis. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A funeral in loving memory and thanksgiving for the life of John J. Kocsis Sr., who died Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, will be celebrated Tuesday at 2 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Williamstown by the Rev. Peter T. Elvin. The family will gather to meet family and friends in the Upper Room at St. John's Church from 1 until the time of service. Burial will follow in the family plot in Westlawn Cemetery, Williamstown.
