Leon Carl Storti

Leon Carl Storti, 92, of Silver Street died Wednesday at Great Barrington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born Lino Carineglio Stolti in Housatonic on May 22, 1913, son of Louis and Louisa Molong Storti, he attended local schools and was a graduate of the former Searles High School. He moved to Miami in 1956 and returned to the Berkshires in 1962. A Marine veteran, he was drafted in 1943 and served as a private. He was stationed at Paris Island, N.C., Cherry Point, N.C., Memphis, Tenn. and Camp LeJeune in N.C. He received the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged on March 21, 1945. Mr. Storti was employed by Schwerman Concrete Transportation Company, Miami, from 1956 until his retirement. Prior to that, he worked at the Community Conservation Camp in Sandisfield from 1934 to 1936, and at GE from 1941 until he was drafted. After his discharge, he was a self-employed truck driver, running a bread route. From 1947 until 1952 he worked for his father-in-law, Thomas F. Graham, at the former Graham's Restaurant. In 1952, he was employed by Lyle Dutton of the Milk Transport, also known as the Dairy League. He also owned Storti Sand and Gravel Company in Miami for six years. He was a communicant of St. Peter's Church. He was a horseman, winning many first-place trophies and ribbons in rodeos. He enjoyed hunting, going to the races, dancing, cooking, and traveling in his motor home. He and his wife, the former Virginia Graham, were married for 66 years prior to her death in June 2002. He leaves three sons, Gary Storti of Great Barrington, Brian Storti of San Ramon, Calif., and Thomas G. Storti of Hillsdale, N.Y.; a daughter, Karen Gauthier of Paramus, N.J.; a brother, Ernest Storti of Hillsdale, N.Y., ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Leon Carl Storti, who died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, will be Monday at 1 p.m. at St. Peter's Church, celebrated by the Rev. Shaun O'Connor, MIC. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the FINNERTY AND STEVENS FUNERAL HOME. Memorial donations may be made to the Claire Teague Senior Center through the funeral home, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230. He also leaves a son-in-law Raymond Gauthier; two daughters-in-law, Jennifer Storti and Linda Storti; 10 grandchildren, Kimberley, Lisa, Christopher, Blythe, Ryan, Todd, Shyer, Jeffery, Tamara and Kelly; four great-grandchildren, Kristeena, Natasha, Jacob, Tyler Paul, and one great-great-granddaughter, Genieve Madaline. He was predeceased by his sister, Nellie Pultorak, and his brothers Anthony and Oliver Storti.
