Noble G. Woodin

Noble G. Woodin, 86, a former longtime resident of Hayshill Road in the village of Mill River, died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. He had been a resident of Great Barrington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for six years. Born in Vermont on May 2, 1919, son of William and Mabel Bownes Woodin, he attended schools there. He had been a resident of Mill River for more than 50 years. An Army veteran of World War II, he served from Feb. 28, 1941, to Dec. 6, 1946. Mr. Noble was employed by the New Marlborough Highway Department. In 1981, he retired from Hinderman Lumber, where he was a lumberman. He was a member of Castleton (Vt.) Bicentennial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8284 and enjoyed fishing, working in his garden and tinkering with anything mechanical. He leaves two daughters, Beverly Bazonski of Great Barrington and Barbara Joslin of Gardner; four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his former wife, the former Lillian Mary Whitten, whom he married May 19, 1942, in Fitchburg. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Noble G. Woodin will be conducted tomorrow, Dec. 20, 2005, at noon at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington by the Rev. Charles VanAusdall, pastor of First Congregational Church in Great Barrington. The family will receive friends from 11 until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Noble G. Woodin Memorial Fund through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
