Alice Mae Gomeau, 95
ADAMS, Mass. — Alice Mae Howland Gomeau, 95, of 116 Commercial St. died Jan. 19, 2006, at North Adams Regional Hospital following a short illness.
Born in Adams on May 9, 1910, daughter of Amy Howland Bazinet, she was educated in Adams schools, graduating from the former Adams High School in 1927.
Mrs. Gomeau was employed with the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams for 48 years and, before her retirement in 1975, as the longtime secretary to the plant manager, Fred Potter.
She was a communicant of St. Francis' Church. She was a member of the Sprague Quarter Century and Retirees clubs, as well as a life member and color bearer for the Dr. George L. Curran Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 996 Ladies' Auxiliary in North Adams. She enjoyed reading, needlepoint, crossword puzzles, watching old movies and spending time with her family.
Her husband, William T. Gomeau, died in March 1974.
She leaves two daughters, Mary A. Williams of Adams, with whom she resided, and Peggy A. Bertoli of Port Orange, Fla.; a brother, Theodore Bazinet of Adams; a sister, Vernon O'Malley of Reading, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son, North Adams firefighter William T. Gomeau Jr., on Sept. 27, 1998.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mrs. Gomeau will take place Monday at 10 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPELS, followed by services at 11 at St. Francis' Church.
Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. Memorial donations suggested for the Eileen Barrett Foundation through the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
