George J. Ciuk

George J. Ciuk, 87, of 47 Leonard St. died early Wednesday at North Adams Commons. Born in Adams on Oct. 28, 1918, son of Jacob and Anna Mlecek Ciuk, he attended Adams schools. A veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, he served with the medical detachment of the First Infantry Division in the European theater, and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals. Mr. Ciuk worked in the power transformer division of General Electric Co. in Pittsfield for 35 years until retiring in 1982. He also worked part time for many years as a bartender at Adams Post 160 of the American Legion. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. He was a member of Adams Post 160 of the American Legion, Dr. George L. Curran Post 995 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, North Adams, Forest Park Country Club in Adams and the General Electric Quarter Century and Pensioner's clubs. He enjoyed golfing and mushrooming. His first wife, the former Celia Golka, whom he married on May 26, 1947, died March 22, 1974. His second wife, the former Helen Swistak Wilusz, died Aug. 8, 2002. He leaves three daughters, Jean Kondej, Joan Wnuk, and Joyce Nowicki, all of Adams; three brothers, Chester Ciuk of Adams; Michael Ciuk of Williamstown; and Thomas Ciuk of Camp Hill, Pa., and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral Services for George J. Ciuk, who died Feb. 1, 2006, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus' Church, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Catholic parishes of Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus' Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Stanislaus' Church or to Adams Post No. 160 American Legion Scholarship Fund through the funeral home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, MA 01220. He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Stanley Ciuk, and three sisters, Julia Ethier, Victoria LaPierre and Lucille Flood.
