Walter F. Juras

Walter F. Juras, 83, of 3 Marshall Ave. died yesterday at Williamstown Commons, where he was admitted in September. Born in Adams on March 11, 1918, son of Peter and Hedwig Cynar Juras, he attended local schools. At age 16, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, where he worked on several projects. In 1940, he was the first Adams resident to enter the military under the Selective Service Act. During World War II, he was a member of the Army's First Division, known as "The Big Red One," that made the initial invasion of North Africa. He also participated in the invasion of Sicily. He was honorably discharged in 1944. He was employed at Pfizer Inc. of Adams for 28 years, retiring in 1980. Mr. Juras was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. He was a member of the Burnette-Bednarz Post 1995 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and St. Michael's Society. His wife, the former Lucille V. Roberts, whom he married Oct. 8, 1947, died Oct. 19, 1972. He leaves a son, Robert P. Juras of Adams; a daughter, Katherine Bishop of Adams; a brother, Mathew Juras of Adams; two sisters, Blanche Kaczka of Adams and Monica Major of Stoneham, and five grandchildren. The funeral will be held Thursday at 8:15 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans through the funeral home.
