Roy Nathan Tucker

Roy Nathan Tucker, 81, formerly of East Road, died April 27 at the home of his nephew, Jeff Lashoones in Long, S.C. Born in West Stockbridge on Jan. 22, 1925, son of Earl and Beaula Kinne Tucker, he attended local schools and was a graduate of the former Williams High School in Stockbridge. Mr. Tucker enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 12, 1944, and served as an ammunition bearer. He served in the Southern Philippines, having earned the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 20, 1946, having earned the rank of corporal. Mr. Tucker returned home, where he worked on the family dairy farm until 1960 when he went to work at the Green Mead Farm in Richmond. In 1973, he went to work in the shipping department at Becton-Dickinson in Canaan, Conn., until retiring in 1986. A card player, he played throughout the area and was a member of the Alford Card Club. He married the former Mary Smith on Sept. 15, 1973, in South Egremont. He cared for her throughout the years, making daily visits to Timberlyn Heights Nursing Home when he could not longer care for her at home. She died Feb. 17, 2003. He leaves two stepsons, Scott Estef of Danville, Calif., and Lance Estef of Atwater, Calif., and a sister, Shirlee Tucker of West Stockbridge. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A service celebrating the life of Roy Nathan Tucker, who died Thursday, April 27, 2006 will be held Saturday, June 17, at 11 a.m. at FINNERTY AND STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington, conducted by the Rev. Belle Fox Martin, pastor of West Stockbridge Congregational Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. He was a devoted husband. He also leaves his nephews, Peter Tucker and his wife, Pat, of Alford; Jeff Lashoones and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Long, S.C.; Jim Tucker and his wife, Hae Kyoung, of Ventura, Calif.; his niece, Jan Schneider of Housatonic, along with several grand-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Mildred Pepino, and his brother, Kenneth Tucker.
