Miles Joseph O'Grady Jr.

Miles Joseph O'Grady Jr., 82, of 10 Charles St. died Saturday, June 3, at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in North Adams on Nov. 16, 1924, son of Miles Joseph O'Grady Sr. and Mary Marcella Doyle O'Grady, he graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1942. A decorated World War II Army veteran, he served as a Drill Sergeant and a member of the JAG Corps. He had been employed, first as a supervisor and foreman and later as a corporate and overseas budget analyst, for Sprague Electric for 43 years until the North Adams plant closed. He then worked for the Pinkerton Agency and was in charge of the security department of the Clark Art Institute for several years. After his retirement, he worked part-time as a driver for Elder Services of the Berkshires. He was a longtime communicant of St. Francis' Church in North Adams. He was a member of the Frank Stiles Post #125 American Legion in North Adams, the North Adams Retired Men's Club, and the Stamford Valley Golf Club. He enjoyed reading, bowling and golfing and was a Washington Redskins and Notre Dame Football fan. She leaves his wife, Agnes Todd O'Grady, with whom he would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on June 24. In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Brian Timothy O'Grady of Williamstown, and two granddaughters. He was predeceased by two daughters, who died in infancy, and a son, William O'Grady. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Miles Joseph O'Grady Jr., who died Saturday, June 3, 2006, will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Church, North Adams. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for the American Cancer Society or to the Elder Services of the Berkshires through FLYNN & DAGNOLI HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPEL, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247. He leaves a daughter-in-law, Alison Rose O'Grady, and two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Meghan O'Grady. He was predeceased by five brothers, Charles, William, Edward, Gerald and John "Jack" O'Grady.
