Kenneth Bradley Licht

Kenneth Bradley Licht, 76, of 546 Union St. died Sunday at the Vermont Veteran's Home in Bennington, Vt. Born in Boston on April 9, 1930, son of Karl Campbell and Edith Anderson Licht, he attended schools in Newton Falls. Following his graduation, he attended Boston Conservatory of Music, where he earned a bachelor's degree in music. He then earned a master of music degree from Drew University. Mr. Licht did further graduate study at other schools, including Longy School of Music in Cambridge and Alfred University in New York. Other scholastic degrees and honors include an honorary doctorate from the former North Adams State College. Mr. Licht was the official organist during the occupation of Japan for Gen. Douglas MacArthur. He served as Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church of North Adams from 1970 to 1975, as well as in churches throughout the country. He taught music at the University of Hartford and the Julius Hartt School of Music in Hartford, Conn., and Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vt. He also gave private music lessons. He had also sold and built Wicks and Rodgers Organs and was a registered organ tuner and piano technician. He built the organ for the First Baptist Church in North Adams. He was a member of the American Guild of Organists and the Piano Technicians Guild. He directed ecumenical choruses in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Vermont, and served as music director for local summer theater groups. He directed the Heptones, a women's barbershop group in North Adams; The Rutland Regionarres, a men's group, and the Peppermint Pipers, a women's group in Rutland. He was a member of several volunteer fire departments in Vermont, Tennessee and North Carolina for approximately 20 years. He and his wife, the former Patricia DeRose, were married Oct. 15, 1977. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Wendy Licht of Stamford, Vt.; and Judy Licht of Clarksburg; two sons, Bradley Licht of North Adams and Brian Licht of Clarksburg; a stepdaughter, Linda Hurlbut of Clarksburg; a stepson, Bruce Moulthrup of Middlebury, Conn.; a sister, Carolyn Gralton of Petersburg, Fla.; a brother, Norman Licht of Milford, N.H.; 12 grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Kenneth Licht, who died Sunday, June 18, 2006, will be held on Thursday June 22, at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, North Adams. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are today from 5 to 8 p.m. at AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME. Memorial donations may be made to the Vermont Veteran's Home or the Alzheimer's Association through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
