Edna M. Taggart

Edna M. Taggart, 94, of Blue Hill Road died yesterday at home. Born in her family home in Valhalla, N.Y., on April 29, 1912, daughter of Louis and Mary Stevens Hatfield, she attended high school in White Plains, N.Y. Mrs. Taggart was employed by the former First Agricultural Bank in Great Barrington for 15 years, retiring in 1977. She was primarily a homemaker. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and of the low-vision support group at the Claire Teague Senior Center. She also danced with the "Charlie's Angels" group, performing well into her 80s. She was a former Cub Scout den mother and enjoyed cooking and baking. She and her husband, Ransom E. Taggart Sr., were married Oct. 7, 1934, in Valhalla. They lived in Waterbury, Conn., for a short time before moving to Great Barrington in 1938. Mr. Taggart died in 1960. She leaves a daughter, Edna May Price of Lenox; two sons, Ransom E. Taggart Jr. of Cold Spring, N.Y., and David Taggart of Richmond, R.I.; a sister Dorothy "Bobby" Long of East Berne, N.Y.; three brothers, Melvin Hatfield of Terryville, Conn., Lee Hatfield of Arlington, Va., and Roy Hatfield of Goshen, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Edna M. Taggart, who died Saturday, June 24, 2006, will be conducted Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at 11:30 at FINNERTY AND STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington by the Rev. Catherine Woods Richardson, rector of St. James' Episcopal Church in Great Barrington. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Great Barrington. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 27, 2006, from 11 until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Berkshire Elderly Transportation Co. or to St. James' Episcopal Church through the funeral home, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230. Mrs. Taggart was predeceased by her stepmother, Dorothy Hatfield; two sisters, Madeline Thibodeau and Adele Craig, and a brother, Edouard Hatfield.
