Richard Francis Maloney

Richard Francis Maloney, 73, of 329 Norfolk Road, Southfield, died yesterday at home. He was a member of the New Marlborough Zoning Board of Appeals and a former town moderator. Born in Pittsfield on June 27, 1933, son of Edward J. and Helena MacDonald Maloney, he was a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph's High School, where he was captain of the basketball team, and a 1956 graduate of St. Michael's College, where he received a bachelor's degree in business administration and was second in his graduating class. He served in the Army from 1956 to 1962, including in Panama, and was honorably discharged. Mr. Maloney earned a master's degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts and studied economics under a fellowshipthrough the American Institute for Economic Research. From 1978 until his death, he was president of AIC Investment Advisors Inc. in Great Barrington. Before that, he was vice president of investments for the firm and an industry and gold analyst with the American Institute for Economic Research. He was editor and publisher of the AIC Investment Bulletin, an international semimonthly advisory publication covering economic and monetary developments as well as security markets, for almost three decades. Mr. Maloney was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Mill River and of St. Mary's Church in Lee. He taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield and had served on the board of Berkshire Corp. since 1975. He enjoyed reading, especially history, philosophy, theology and economics. He and his wife, the former Patricia Merrill, would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Oct. 10. Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Judith Maloney of South Glastonbury, Conn., Dianne Stovall of Farmington, Conn., and Pamela MacKenzie of Andover; a son, Paul M. Maloney of Southfield; a brother, J. Donnell Maloney of Pittsfield, and seven grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Richard Francis Maloney, who departed this life at home in the care of his family in the early hours of July 2, 2006, will be celebrated Wednesday, July 5, at 12:30 at Immaculate Conception Church in Mill River by the Rev. Anthony Cullen, associate pastor of St. Mary's Church. Calling hours will be at the funeral home from 11 until the time of the funeral. Burial will immediately follow in Lee Memorial Cemetery in Southfield, with a reception afterward in New Marlboro. FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington is in charge of arrangements.
