Lois Marie Schopp Emberlin Bradford

Lois Marie Schopp Emberlin Bradford, 80, of Main Street, a longtime Sheffield resident, died Sunday at her summer residence in Taconic, Conn. Born in Miami on July 4, 1926, daughter of Arthur and Lillian Muir Schopp, she was raised in New Rochelle, N.Y. The family later moved to Sheffield, where she graduated from Sheffield High School in 1944. After marrying, she moved to Phoenix, where she was primarily a homemaker. She returned to Sheffield following her husband's death, and spent her summers in Taconic. In recent years, Mrs. Schopp spent winters on Marcos Island, Fla. With her husband, she ran Bradford Galleries, an estate auction gallery in Sheffield, until 2001, when she passed it on to her son. Prior to that, she opened Maplewood Fabrics, a popular fabric and interior decorating shop, with her sister in Ashley Falls until it was sold in 1986. An active member of the community, she was a member of the Sheffield Planning Board, Zoning Board and the Sheffield Businessmen's Association. She was also on the board of directors for the former Canaan National Bank, now Salisbury Bank & Trust. Her first husband, Roy Jack Emberlin, whom she married in 1947, died in 1957. Her second husband, William Bradford, whom she married on Nov. 16, 1967, in New York City, died in 1996. She leaves four sons, Donald Arthur Emberlin of Coolidge, Ariz., Barry Emberlin of Sheffield, Robert Emberlin of Taconic, Conn., and Stephen Emberlin of Plantation, Fla; a sister, Joan Brooks of Ashley Falls; a brother, Roald Schopp, of Claverack, N.Y., and seven grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Calling hours for Lois Marie Schopp, who died July 16, 2006, will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2006, from 4 to 7 p.m. Following the calling hours, the family will hold a "Reflection and Memory Gathering" honoring her life from 7 until 8 p.m. at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington. A burial service will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Lois may be made to the Eagle Fund & Cadmus Life Sharing Association (which provides opportunities for less abled adults) through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Remembrances, memories and reflections may be sent to the family through www.finnertyandstevens .com. She leaves three daughters-in-law, Jean (Barry), Tanya (Robert), and Kathy (Stephen) Emberlin, and seven grandchildren, Greg, Catherine, Kate, Margaret, Jason, Sarah and Rachel. Lois will be remembered for her great sense of humor. She loved people and always found the good in everyone. She was a great promoter and was always the first to come up with new ideas and the first to implement them. Throughout her life, she was always doing things to help those less fortunate.
