Lino E. Piantoni

Lino E. Piantoni, 74, of 40 Richmond Lane died yesteday at his home. Born in North Adams on Sept. 16, 1932, son of Erminio and Lucy Cattaneo Piantoni, he was educated there and graduated from Drury High School in 1950. He also graduated from the Oil Heat Institute of Springfield and the Lee Institute of Real Estate. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving from Jan. 15, 1953 to Jan. 14, 1955. He was honorably discharged as a private first class, serving with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was an apprentice for Cashin Plumbing of Adams and completed the Pipefitter and Plumber Union and oil burner technician programs. He was employed as a plumber, and worked with various plumbing and heating contractors, retiring in 1991. Following his retirement, he maintained real estate properties. Previously, he was employed by Sprague Electric Co. at the Beaver Street plant, and later in the maintenance department of the power tranformer division of the former General Electric Co. in Pittsfield. Mr. Piantoni was a longtime communicant of St. Stanislaus Church, and was a member of the Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Union Local 104 of Springfield, serving on its pension plan board. He was also a former member of the St. Stanislaus Society and the Adams Planning Board. He enjoyed hunting, boating, fishing, cooking and mushrooming. He also enjoyed taking trips to casinos. He and his wife, the former Valerie C. Wolkowicz, were married July 18, 1953, in St. Stanislaus Church. Besides his wife of 53 years, he leaves two sisters, Eunice Boulger and Irene Shea, both of Clarksburg, and a brother, Robert Piantoni of Andover. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Lino Edward Piantoni, who died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, will take place Monday, Oct. 2, at 9 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS-WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home are tomorrow, Oct. 1, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, any donations in his memory are suggested for Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home. He also leaves two brothers-in-law, Michael Boulger and Timothy Shea; a sister-in-law, Sarah Piantoni; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, and his dog, Elmo. A brother, William John Piantoni, died Oct. 27, 1990.
