Nechama "Nettie" G. Baum

Nechama "Nettie" G. Baum, 90, of Hollenbeck Avenue, died at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox yesterday. Born in New York City on Sept. 26, 1916, daughter of Max and Fannie Oster Greidinger, she received a bachelor's degree from Brooklyn (N.Y.) College. She was a teacher of business skills in Brooklyn. Mrs. Baum was a camp mother at Camp Watitoh in Becket from 1959 to the mid-1960s. She retired to Florida in 1975 and became active in Hadassah and was, at one time, president of the Florida Atlantic Region of Hadassah. Mrs. Baum enjoyed traveling, spending time in North America, Europe and Israel with her family. She was a great lover of the arts, particularly Tanglewood. She and her husband, Herman Baum, were married on June 25, 1950, in New York City. He died on March 14, 1974. They raised their two children in Brooklyn, N.Y., living in the Bensonhurst area and later moving to Coney Island. She leaves a daughter, Elaine Baum of Great Barrington; a son, Jonathan Baum of Great Barrington; a sister, Elsie Altholz of Boca Raton, Fla.; a brother, B. Bernard Greidinger; and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- There will be a memorial service for Nettie Baum, who died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, today at 6:30 p.m. in the library at the Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School, 35 West Plain Road, Great Barrington, MA 01230. She was a wonderful grandmother to Benjamin and Catherine. She was a dear friend to the end of her life, warmly connecting with all who came to love her, including Janice Kittner, Patrice Colle, and the girls of Valleyhead and their therapy dog, Libby, who visited at Kimball Farms. Mrs. Baum also leaves a daughter-in-law, Susanna; two adoring grandchildren, Benjamin and Catherine; and nephews, Melvin, Alan, Robert and Howard and their families. She is predeceased by three sisters, Rose, Ruth and Lottie.
