Isabelle Kierstead

D. Isabelle Kierstead, 77, of 800 Windsor Bush Road, Windsor, and 2504 15th St., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, died Thursday at her home in Windsor. Born in Pittsfield on July 4, 1924, daughter of Frederick and Dorothy Smith Bird, she attended Windsor and Cummington schools. She graduated from Adams High School in 1942. She attended the former Bay Path Institute in Springfield and graduated from Ogdensburg (N.Y.) Business School and the University of Akron (Ohio). She had resided in Cuyahoga Falls since 1954. She was briefly employed by General Electric Co. in Pittsfield and was a clerical worker for the U.S. Veterans Administration in Tupper Lake, N.Y., and in Washington, D.C., in the 1940s. She worked for Polsky's Department Store in Akron during the 1970s and as a substitute teacher for the Nordonia Hills Local School District in Macedonia, Ohio, in the 1980s. She was a founding member of the Akron Symphony Chorus and was a Girl Scout leader and neighborhood chairman for many years. She was also a member of the Northampton (Ohio) Grange and the Pomona, State and National Grange organizations, and of various wildlife, conservation and nature organizations. She exhibited at the Littleville, Middlefield and Cummington fairs for many years. She enjoyed playing the piano and mandolin, traveling and sightseeing, local history, nature, country and folk music, animals, and caring for her grandson. She leaves her husband, Friend H. Kierstead Jr., whom she married June 10, 1945; two daughters, Dorothygrace B. Kelley of Akron and Margaret R. Kierstead of Kent, Ohio; a son, James F. Kierstead of Windsor; a sister, G. Phyllis Wise of Syracuse, N.Y., and a grandson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 21, at 11 a.m. at West Cummington Congregational Church, with the Rev. Stephen Philbrick and the Rev. Arnold Westwood officiating. Burial will follow in Bush Cemetery in Windsor. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held in Cuyahoga Falls at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Windsor (Mass.) Historical Commission or to any nature, conservation or wildlife organization in her memory. The BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226, is in charge of arrangements.
