Earl G. Engelmann

Earl G. Engelmann, 92, of 88 Blunt Road, North Egremont, and 301 Tide Pointe Way, Hilton Head, S.C., died Tuesday at home. Born in Pittsfield on June 21, 1915, son of Max and Minnie Schmaezle Engelmann, he was a 1933 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Mr. Engelmann became a registered representative of the New York Stock Exchange in 1956 and spent most of his career in financial markets and in real estate development. He was a trustee of the Laurel Hill Association, a member of the executive board of the Berkshire County Council of Boy Scouts of America, trustee of the Stockbridge Library Association and a member of the Crescent Lodge of Masons. In 1954, he moved to Prospect Hill in Stockbridge and spent most of the following years raising his family in South County, retiring in 1975, at which point he began spending his winters in Bonita Springs, Fla., and summers in Little Compton, R.I. He moved to Hilton Head in 2002. He was a member and deacon of the First Congregational Church of Pittsfield. Mr. Engelmann and his wife, the former Adda Noonan, were married 67 years. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Ane Hatch of Midway, Utah, and Ada Johnson of Beverly Hills and North Egremont; a son, Earl Engelmann Jr. of Ketchum, Idaho; and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Earl G. Engelmann, who died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Pittsfield by the Rev. Dr. Meredith B. Handspicker. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Donations in his memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires care of the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, which is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Engelmann also leaves two grandchildren, Whitney Engelmann and Abby Hatch. After moving from Florida to Hilton Head Island in 2002, he returned to the Berkshires to spend his summers with family and friends, and to his favorite activity -- tending to his vegetable and flower gardens.
