Gerard J. Dietemann

Gerard J. Dietemann, 78, of Park Street, Housatonic, died Friday at Great Barrington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Strasbourg, France, on April 18, 1929, son of Charles and Josephine Kuntz Dietemann, he attended French schools. In 1952, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to Syracuse University, from which he also received a master's in business administration. Mr. Dietemann held managment positions with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co., with Corning Glass and with Colgate-Palmolive Co. He also published several articles on management accounting and one on his experience as a Fulbright Scholar in the United States. He enjoyed classical music and poetry. He had a large library of European history, medieval art, and French and German literature. He and his wife, the former Margaret Quinn, met while he was attending Syracuse. After moving to France, they married, and Mr. Dietemann served as a translator of English and German for the Ministry of the French Navy in Paris while his wife held a Fulbright Scholarship at the Sorbonne. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Stephen Dietemann of Great Barrington and Christopher Dietemann of Dallas; two daughters, Margaret Clarke of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Chantal Rhind of Stockbridge; two sisters, Jacqueline Dietemann and Marie Therese Reibel, both of Strasbourg; and eight grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The family of Mr. Gerard J. Dietemann will hold a private remembrance. Mr. Dietemann died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007. FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
