Henrietta S. Wooliver

Henrietta Schaefer Wooliver, 101, of 1000 North St., formerly of Lakeway Drive, died Monday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility. Born in Lowell on June 10, 1900, daughter of George W. and Susanna Eberhardt Schaefer, she moved to Pittsfield in 1910 and attended New York and Pittsfield schools. During World War II, she served as a Pittsfield air raid warden. Mrs. Wooliver was employed in the stationary department of Crane & Co. for more than 20 years, retiring in 1965. She was a member of Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she belonged to the "Puppet sewer group," which made puppets for the hospital children's wards. She also was a member of the Berkshire Benevolent Association for the Blind. In her early years, she was active in the cause of women's rights in Pittsfield and in the national suffrage movement. Her husband, Philip E. Wooliver, whom she married June 27, 1926, died in 1971. She leaves a son, Philip D. Wooliver of Pittsfield; a daughter, June Wooliver Wortman of West Virginia; a brother, Carl W. Schaefer of Rome, Ga.; two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11 a.m. in WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, with the Rev. Peter D. Boehringer officiating. Following cremation, burial will be in the Pittsfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Zion's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
