Louis P. Naventi

Louis P. Naventi, 78, of 325 Marble St. died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Lee on Sept. 7, 1928, son of John and Teresa Trovatelli Naventi, he graduated in 1946 from Lee High School, where he played football. He served in the Massachusetts National Guard. Mr. Naventi was employed as an auto mechanic by Fraser Sales and Service in Lee for 47 years, where he also delivered oil and drove a bus, retiring in 1989. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Lee Fire Department for nearly 50 years, during which he served as a deputy fire chief and a member of the muster team. He was active in town politics during the 1960s and 1970s, and served as a water commissioner for the Department of Public Works during that time. He also enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and cooking and was a lifelong New York Yankees fan. He also played football in the Sons of Italy league. His wife, the former Elizabeth Driscoll, whom he married June 4, 1949 at St. Mary's Church, died July 3. He leaves a son, Peter A. Naventi of Lee; four daughters, Kathy Naventi-Brown and Louise Naventi Lucchese, both of Lee, Peggy Naventi Hashim of Pittsfield and Mary Ann Naventi of New Millford, Conn; a brother, George J. Naventi of West Stockbridge; a sister, Josephine Irene Boyne of Lee; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Louis Naventi, who died Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, will be held at 9:15 a.m. Friday at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with a Liturgy of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lee Fire Department. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Diane R. Naventi; three sons-in-law, Martin T. Brown, Nicholas L. Lucchese and James R. Hashim; 10 grandchildren, Brian J., Rebecca L. and Jeffrey A. Hashim, Matthew P., Elise P., Andrew J. and Madeline L. Naventi, Dan and Rob Brown and Brandon M. Gawron; and two great-grandchildren, Evan and Mitchell Brown. He was predeceased by his brothers, Rico, Paul, Herman, John, and Mickey, and his sisters, Mary and Katherine. He and his wife were married for 58 years, and he served as her caregiver during her seven-year battle with Alzheimer's. They loved to say that they were married twice, the first time being in the senior high school play. An avid gardener, he was known especially for his peppers and tomatoes. A great outdoorsman, he instilled a love of the outdoors in all of his children. He and his family vacationed for many years on Cape Cod. He loved all animals, especially dogs.
