Robert Mitchell Harris Jr.

Robert Mitchell Harris Jr., 72, of 3056 Quayside Court, Apartment 102, Melbourne, Fla., a native of North Adams, died Friday at home. Born on Nov. 9, 1934, son of Robert Mitchell Harris Sr. and Blanche Klimkiewicz Harris, he attended local schools, including the former St. Joseph Grammar and High schools. Mr. Harris was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and served with the Massachusetts Army National Guard, 26th Infantry Division, as a private. He was employed by General Electric Co. for many years, retiring in 1992 as a group leader of the transmissions division. At one time, he also assisted as a night dispatcher at the family-owned business Roto-Rooter Co. in Cheshire. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Lanesborough, where he served as a lay reader for the diocese of Western Massachusetts. He was also a preacher for the evening services and a leader of the Youth Fellowship Group. He was a member of Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 VFW, of the Berkshire County Ham Radio Club and, since 1975, of the Pittsfield Lodge of Masons. He also belonged to the Berkshire County Sheriff's Association. He and his wife, the former Barbara Ann Cook, were married April 19, 1968, at St. Luke's Church in Lanesborough. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Katherine Cahalan of Palm Bay, Fla.; two sons, John M. Harris of Cheshire and Mitchell R. Harris of North Adams; a stepson, James R. Voghel of Pittsfield; two brothers, Rolland Harris of North Adams and John Gilbert Harris of Pittsfield; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Two stepsons, Robert Voghel and Craig Voghel, died in 1989. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Robert Mitchell Harris Jr. will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Old Stone Church in Lanesborough. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery in North Adams. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapel, 521 West Main St., North Adams.

he was my grandfather and a verry wonderfull man i wish that i could relive all the great memories i had with him and my grandmother.i loved him verry mutch and vice versa,he kept my picture of when i was a child in the sun viser of his van untill he past and that is one of the manny things i will never forget about him.rip grampa i will always love you <3
