Milton J. Gordon

Milton J. Gordon, 87, of 85 Richmond Ave. died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in New York City on April 17, 1920, son of Julius and Bertha Komer Gordon, he grew up in Wood Haven, N.Y., where he attended local schools, and received his bachelor's degree from Syracuse University. An Army veteran of World War II, he attained the rank of captain, serving as a gunnery officer with the Air Corps. Mr. Gordon was employed by the former Peter J. Schweitzer Co., later Kimberly-Clark Co., retiring as regional mill manager in 1980 with 40 years of service. He owned and operated Windsor Services in Windsor, Conn., from 1980 to 1989. He was a member of Temple Anshe Amunim in Pittsfield, where he served as a trustee and member of the brotherhood. He also served on the Lee Finance Committee and on the board of the former Lee National Bank (now Legacy Banks) and the rehab board of Berkshire Medical Center. He was treasurer of the Lee Library and a member of the Technical Association of Paper and Pulp Industries and of the Tri-Town Rotary Club. He enjoyed card games, especially bridge, and traveling, gardening and reading. He and his wife, the former Annette Gordon, were married March 30, 1947, in New York City. They moved to Lee in 1951, building their house at 85 Richmond Ave. in 1956. For the past 17 years, they had wintered in Naples, Fla. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Robert Allan Gordon of Dix Hills, N.Y.; two daughters, Susan Janet Gordon of Pittsfield and Ruth Carol Gordon of Columbia, Conn.; and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Milton J. Gordon, who died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Temple Anshe Amunim by Rabbi Mark Wieder, spiritual adviser. The family will receive friends at its home, 85 Richmond Ave., in Lee, from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, with a short service from 5:30 to 6 p.m. each day. Memorial donations may be made to the Lee Library and the Gordon Family Endowment Fund at Temple Anshe Amunim, both in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01240. Milton leaves two grandsons, Jeremy and Alex Gordon; two step-grandchildren, Tristan and Amber Lea Kincaid; his son-in-law, Jim Moran; and two daughters-in-law, Carol Gordon and Rhonda Kincaid. He was predeceased by his brother, Leonard Gordon. Milton was best known for his generosity of time and spirit. He taught his children that being a good manager means not only being organized and taking care of business but also knowing and caring for and about your employees. He was a personable and charming man who put people at ease and made them smile. He always wanted to help anyone who needed it. He loved to sing and courted Annette by crooning Frank Sinatra songs. Milton always wanted to drive a sports car, and we hope he's now enjoying the ride in his brand new one.
