Steven M. Burns

Steven M. Burns, 53, of 23 Temple St. died of cancer Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Turners Falls on April 28, 1954, son of the late James J. Burns III and Dorothy Woodward Burns, he attended St. Anne's Elementary School there. After moving to Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., he graduated from Hastings High School. He received his associate degree in liberal arts from Greenfield Community College and was studying for his bachelor's degree at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams. An Army veteran, he served four years, most of it in Pirmasens, Germany. He also served two years with the Army National Guard. At the time of his death, he was employed by Transport the People, a Pittsfield-based company that helps patients get to medical appointments. Before that, he was employed by Seiler's Food Service Co. as an assistant food service manager in the North Adams Regional Hospital cafeteria and by Berkshire Family and Individual Resources in North Adams He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church and enjoyed bass fisherman, golf and history. He and his wife, the former Ria Cronauer, were married Feb. 24, 1978. Beside his wife, he leaves two sons, Michael Burns and Shannon Burns, both of Adams; a daughter, Jennifer Howland of North Adams; two brothers, Michael Burns of Purdys, N.Y., and Bruce Pollard of Turners Falls; a sister, Joanne Murphy of Easthampton; and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Steven M. Burns died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield surrounded by his family after a brave battle with cancer. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus' Church in Adams by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Catholic Community of Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Adams. There will be no calling hours. Donations in his memory may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society through TROTTIER PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams, which is in charge of arrangements. He also leaves a son-in-law, Jason Howland; a sister-in-law, Patti (Michael) Burns; a brother-in-law, Tom Murphy; three grandchildren, Maya, Jacy and Nicholas Howland; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, James J. Burns IV, is deceased. Mr. Burns loved his three dogs.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family. I spent 1975 in the army in Pirmasens and think its the same Ria that I knew.
