Gertrude L. Whitman, 75

LEE - Gertrude L. Whitman, 75, of 46 Railroad St., Hyde Place, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Hancock on May 14, 1932, daughter of Floyd and Hazel Turner Whitman, she was educated in schools in New Lebanon, N.Y., and attended New Lebanon High School. Mrs. Whitman moved to Lee in 1961 and worked at the Fox Hollow Schools for Girls for a number of years. She was a member of the Thursday and Sunday night mixed bowling league at Lee Lanes. She enjoyed reading, bowling, crocheting, the Red Sox and being with her family. Her husband, Lawrence M. Whitman Sr., whom she married Jan. 20, 1951, died Oct. 7, 1987. She leaves two sons, Lawrence M. Whitman Jr. and Brian K. Whitman, both of Pittsfield; a daughter and son-in-law, Judith L. Olds and Ralph Olds Sr. of Lee; two sisters, Alice G. Hobson of Weatherford, Texas, and Helen Thomas of Cherry Plains, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Ralph Olds Jr. and his wife, Susan, Ruth Cruz and her husband, David, and Richard and Thomas Whitman; three stepgrandchildren, Heather Armstrong and her husband, Harold, and Eric and Jeffrey Wells; her great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Devyn Olds; three great-stepgrandchildren, David and Daniel Cruz and Olivia Armstrong, and two daughters-in-law, Rosemarie and Pamela. A brother, Floyd Whitman Jr., is deceased. FUNERAL NOTICE - Services for Gertrude L. Whitman will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. from Housatonic Congregational Church by the Rev. Belle Fox-Martin, pastor. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Lee. Visiting hours at KELLY FUNERAL HOME will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers friends wishing may make donations to Elder Services in care of the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main St. Lee, MA 01238.
