Frederick Wager

Frederick A. Wager Jr., 59, of 94 Mountainview Terrace died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center after suffering an apparent heart attack. Born in Pittsfield on April 19, 1942, son of Edna Burke Wager White and the late Frederick A. Wager Sr., he attended local schools. He served in the Army Reserve for five years. He was last employed as a laborer for George Emerson Construction Co. for nine years, retiring in 1985 because of a back injury. He had also been employed by A. Leo Nash Steel Co., A.J. Stracuzzi Construction Co. and Brodie Mountain Ski Area. An avid horseman, he had trained and raced horses for many years with his late father. He was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed camping. Besides his mother of Pittsfield, he leaves his wife, the former Nancy L. Spaniol, whom he married Feb. 15, 1990; two daughters, Wendy J. Wager of Pittsfield and Michelle L. Foley-Goodwin of Blandford; a brother, David Wager of the state of New York; four sisters, Patricia Gaetani of Pittsfield, Roxanne Schilling and Karen Wager-Woodruff, both of Eldorado Hills, Calif., and Betty Wager of Austin, Texas, and four grandchildren. He also leaves his former wife and friend, Judith A. Depson of Lanesboro. A graveside service will be Friday at 11 at Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton, with the Rev. John A. Koonz, pastor of St. Agnes' Church, officiating. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in care of DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., Dalton, MA 01226, which is in charge of arrangements.
