Mabel E. Todt, 97
ADAMS, Mass. — Mabel E. Todt, 97, of 1 Berkshire Square died peacefully at her home on Thursday morning, May 26, 2011.
Born in Adams on May 23, 1914, a daughter of Leslie G. and Edith M. Daniels Derosia, she attended local schools, and graduated from the former Adams High School with the class of 1933.
She had been a coordinator of many of her class reunions for many years.
Mrs. Todt was employed at the Student Union Snack Bar at Williams College in Williamstown for 20 years, until her retirement. Earlier, she had worked at the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates and Harbor Machine Shop, and had also worked part time at the former Hoosac and Coury's drive-in theaters.
She was an active member of First Congregational Church and served on many church committees, including the Board of Deaconesses, Women's Society and Flower Committee. She was a member of Franklin Chapter 92 Order of Eastern Star for 63 years. She was a member of the Adams Study Club, the Arts & Crafts Club, and volunteered for the American Red Cross Blood Banks. She had also volunteered at North Adams Regional Hospital for 15 years.
Mrs. Todt was a talented and accomplished local artist, and was a president of the Adams Art Association. Her paintings were featured in a summerlong exhibit at Town Hall in 2004 to celebrate her 90th birthday, and had been used to create a set for an independent feature film. She enjoyed playing cards and Scrabble in the social room at Berkshire Square, and was an avid reader. She had treasured her relationships with her beloved family and all of her friends.
Her husband, Harold W. Todt, whom she married on May 18, 1934, died on Fe. 2, 1994.
She leaves her daughter, Barbara T. Coury and her husband, Albert, of Adams; her son, William H. Todt and his wife, Kaye, of Kennett Square, Pa.; four grandchildren, Curtis Coury and his wife, Liza, of Adams, Caroline Ghidotti and her husband, David, of North Adams, William H. Todt Jr. of New York City, and Betsy Iovino and her husband, Joseph, of Chadds Ford, Pa.; four great grandchildren, Jessica Coury, Jacob Coury, Cori Ghidotti and Colby Ghidotti, all of North Adams; two great-great-grandchildren, Alexis Coury and Aiyanna Coury, both of North Adams, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Roy Derosia, and by three sisters, Betty Derosia, Mildred Dodge and Edith Foster.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A memorial service for Mrs. Todt will be held on Saturday, June 11, at 11 a.m. from First Congregational Church of Adams with the Rev. Michael Mullany, pastor, officiating. Burial will be private.
