Lorraine M. Piaggi, 76
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. â€' Lorraine Marie Piaggi, 76, of 66 Tyler St. died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at her home.
Born in North Adams on July 21, 1935, daughter of Oreste James and Theresa Esposito Trozzi, she attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1953.
In her younger years, Mrs. Piaggi worked at the former JJ Newberry Store and former Sprague Electric Co. She was primarily a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She later worked as a teacher's aide and then at Small World Nursery until her retirement.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church and its successor, St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, where she was a Eucharistic minister and formerly taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. She also worked in the CCD office, volunteered at the annual bazaar, and was a member of the Adoration Chapel. She helped deliver meals to shut-ins through the church. She enjoyed reading, bird-watching, gardening and crafts.
She and her husband, Raymond F. Piaggi, were married on June 2, 1962, in St. Anthony's Church.
Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Donna M. Piaggi of Adams and Karen T. Gyurasz and her husband, Edward, of North Adams; two sons, Christopher J. Piaggi and his wife, AnnMarie Zimmermann, of Portville, N.Y., and John W. Piaggi of North Adams; a sister, Janice Moresi and her husband, Robert, of North Adams; four grandchildren, Adrian Ziaggi, Julian Ziaggi and Galen Ziaggi of Portville, and Ethan Piaggi-Cornell of Adams; a niece, Robin Moresi Benway, and a nephew, David Moresi, and cousins.
FUNERAL NOTICE â€' The funeral for Mrs. Piaggi will be Saturday, Jan. 21, at 8:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday, Jan. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Elizabeth Church Preservation Fund;, VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire or Our Lady of Charity Conference of St. Vincent de Paul Society in care of the funeral home.
