Arthur F. Barry, 83

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Arthur Francis Barry, 83, of 102 Walker St. died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in North Adams on Oct. 7, 1928, son of Arthur F. and Frances Doherty Barry, he attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1946. He also attended the former Bliss Business College. A Navy veteran, he served from 1946 to 1950. Mr. Barry was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. in its Research and Development Department for 33 years, until 1985. He then joined the Defense Contract Management Agency in Pittsfield, where he worked until his retirement in 1995. He was a communicant of the former Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Church. He enjoyed riding his three-wheel bicycle on the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail. He also enjoyed building model airplanes. His wife, the former Carol Lyn Schrade, whom he married on May 31, 1958, died on Oct. 16, 1995. He leaves two daughters, Judith A. Barry of Northampton and Linda A. Haggerty and her husband, Michael, of the town of Florida; three sons, William A. Barry and his wife, Mary, of Clarksburg, Robert R. Barry of Cheshire and David C. Barry and his wife, Gitanjali, of Livermore, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Diane Barry, Sarah Haggerty, Katelyn Haggerty, Ian Barry, Jemma Barry, Jason Michael Morin and Joshua; two great-randchildren, Star Barry and Jason Morin Jr., and nieces, nephews and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Barry will be Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 11 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Burial will be in the spring in Southview Cemetery. A calling hour will be held Tuesday morning from 10 until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
